Balanced Scorecard and the 3 Goddesses

The below are  pearls of wisdom taken from Devdutt Pattanaik's videos with CNBC - Business Sutra series.

What are the objectives of a corporation? Why do corporations exist?

A common performance metric to evaluate the performance of business organization is "Balanced Scorecard". In Balanced scorecard, the organization is evaluated through certain perspectives which are mainly 4.

- Financial performance - Sales figures, profitability, growth of profit etc
- Customer perspective - how does the customer view the organization
- Business Processes - the operational efficiencies of the internal processes of the organization
- Learning and Growth - Knowledge resources of the organization, patents, training, learning etc

The three main Goddesses in Hindu mythology are:

Lakshmi - Goddess of wealth
Saraswathi - Goddess of knowledge
Durga - Goddess of emotions

The attributes of the 3 Goddesses represents a completion of our needs- that of wealth, knowledge and emotional well being.

These represent the ideal goals of a corporation too which is that of 1) Wealth maximization 2) Knowledge leadership 3) Well being of all stakeholders.

In a way, the same is measured as part of Balanced Scorecard!!
